Featured artist for February is Gwendolyn Morgan. Gwendolyn is a self-taught artist/designer/crafter. She is interested in many creative forms. She's been creating all of her life; she has made dresses (as a young child) to make money in the community where she lived in Michigan. She learned how to decorate an apartment or house on a budget from various thrift stores taking colorful paper and framing it, which gives you wall art. She learned to use her craft as art in very small places, such as a closet or her art studio. I learned that creativity can take place no matter the size or place.
Gwendolyn is an artist who specializes in Color. She works in fusing glass, gourds and she's passionate about African trade beads and jewelry. She looks for old (well made) jewelry in 2nd hand stores and flea markets as well as Gem Fairs and bead stores. Whatever she makes, it’s a one-of-a-kind custom design, never duplicated piece of art. She is a member of the Art Colony of Morongo Valley, currently holding the office of Treasurer, and a Chaparral Artist.
You can find Gwendolyn's art on line at gwendolynmorgandesigns.com and displayed for sale at The Art Colony Gallery and Gift Shop, open at Covington Park in Morongo Valley during the regularly scheduled hours of Saturday and Sunday, 11am - 3pm, and Wednesday 10am - 2pm.
