Morongo Valley is the westernmost Joshua Tree gateway community in the Morongo Basin. The Art Colony of Morongo Valley is a group of artists and art lovers who come together to share expression, support, education, and friendship.
The Art Colony found its first permanent location in 1964, so it celebrates its 55th birthday in 2019, although the colony actually began earlier with informal meetings in members' homes. As such, it is the oldest and premier arts organization in continual existence in the Morongo Basin.
In addition, as the westernmost Joshua Tree gateway community, we're proud to consider ourselves the first stop from the south or west for an arts excursion into the Basin.
The heart of the Art Colony continues to be the fellowship of its members, but it has a home and business center at a Gift Shop and Gallery in the Community Center of Covington Park. Located on the edge of the beautiful Big Morongo Canyon Preserve, be sure to make the Art Colony a part of your visit to this extraordinary oasis in the Mojave Desert.
